The User Import feature allows administrators to import a list of users, including profile information, to the ProjectDox database. For ease of import, you may use the Download default template link to download an excel spreadsheet that can be populated and saved as a comma delimited CSV file or tab delimited TXT file (recommended).
Use the Download default template links to download a comma delimited CSV file, or tab delimited TXT file (recommended).
Optional: drag the saved file onto a blank Excel spreadsheet. Excel will automatically distribute the items in the template to corresponding columns in the spreadsheet, making it easier to read and make data entry.
Only 4 of the columns require
populating for successful import of new users: Email, Firstname, Lastname,
and SiteGroupName
1. Enter the required data, and save the file in text format. Excel will warn you about loss of Excel formatting – this is not a concern, so confirm save as text.
2. In the User Import screen, click Browse and navigate to select your saved text file.
3. From the Format drop down choose the file type of your saved text file.
4. Browse to your saved file and select the matching type from the Format drop down. Choose the First row contains titles checkbox. If your list contains a row of headings, it will be recognized as such.
5. When you click Validate Import, your data will display with any errors indicated. If there are errors, click Go back. You will need to re-open the spreadsheet, correct the errors, save again, and repeat the selection of the file to import and the Validate Import.
6. Select the checkbox for Update existing users, otherwise ignore if you are using the import to update existing users. An example would be mass change of zip code for existing users. If you are adding new users, be sure that checkbox is cleared.
7. Click Process Import. The user profile data will be read and imported into the database.
